Hosted by the ICE President,
Professor Paul Jowitt

|
Herbert Hoover, the 31st president of the United States (1929-1933) described engineering in his memoirs as “a
great profession. There is the fascination of watching a figment of the
imagination emerge through the aid of science to a plan on paper. Then
it moves to realization in stone or metal or energy. Then it brings
jobs and homes to men. Then it elevates the standards of living and
adds to the comforts of life. That is the engineer's high privilege”.
|
THE CONVENTION WAS A GREAT SUCCESS.....
ICE and SAICE members, development organisations, economists, financiers, industry leaders and
engineers, quantity surveyors, architects, project managers, construction managers, contractors, and all built environment practitioners and professionals attended and participated in strong debate on the future of civil engineering and its contributions to greater societal needs.
|
|
Civil
engineers are today faced with many challenges to deliver
infrastructure in a manner that satisfies current societal
expectations. Environmental, economic and social imperatives, as well
as the ever increasing population in developing countries, necessitates
that infrastructure be delivered differently to how it was delivered a
mere decade ago.
This convention presents new thinking evolving internationally concerning the delivery of infrastructure.
